Student loans are no joke. These days, most people looking into starting college expect to spend quite a bit of time in their careers paying off their schooling. If you are a Seattle student looking at how you can set yourself up for success, I would love to tell you all about Seattle Promise! As a Seattle senior photographer, I have seen countless students who have experienced the benefits firsthand. Here’s everything you need to know!
1500 Harvard Avenue, Seattle, Washington 98122
Seattle Promise was first introduced to the area in 2018 when it was launched by Seattle Colleges, Seattle Public Schools, and the City of Seattle. After seeing so much success, the city decided to renew it in 2025. The goal is simple: make college more accessible to students across the city. They do this by providing free tuition, equity scholarships, and student support and advising. The best part? It’s available for all graduating seniors currently attending Seattle public high schools.

Seattle Promise is here to provide you with free tuition at North Seattle College, Seattle Central College, or South Seattle College. This will last until one of three things happens: you get your first degree, you get 90 college credits, or you attend for two years. From there, you can roll into a four-year university halfway toward a bachelor’s without owing a penny! And qualifying for this scholarship couldn’t be any easier. All you have to do is graduate from a Seattle public high school. That’s it. You don’t have to stress about your GPA, your parents’ income, your ability, or your country of birth.
If you are interested, you can reach out to a student success specialist. Each high school across the area has one assigned to it. They will work with you to fill out your application by the deadline so you can get started.

Seattle Promise keeps working with you once you start college. You will begin to meet with an advisor in your junior year of high school. From there, you will continue to have meetings where they can guide you through the completion of your degree or certificate. If you do decide to transfer to a four-year university, they will be there to ensure the entire process goes smoothly.
In addition to free schooling, Seattle Promise works alongside the University of Washington for a seamless transfer. They also offer equity scholarships that can help with concerns such as textbooks, housing, and transportation.
If you have been looking for the best way to shave money off your future loans, I think you’re really going to benefit from Seattle Promise. Check it out so you can see if you qualify!
