Sometimes, throughout the last few years of high school, it can feel a bit like you are treading water. You have spent so long dreaming about the next stage of your life, but until you can get there, you are stuck taking electives mostly to fill up your schedule. If you are looking for the best way to take full advantage of this time, you might want to consider the Running Start Program in Seattle. Founded through Seattle Colleges, this is your chance to get started on your college degree while staying enrolled in your high school. As a Seattle senior photographer, I adore working with students to make this time one worth remembering. Here’s everything you need to know about this option!
1500 Harvard Ave, Seattle, Washington 98122
Since Seattle Colleges first opened their doors in 1966, their primary concern has been making education more accessible to students across the city. This community college is actually made up of three campuses across the Seattle area. They offer programs such as Hospitality, STEM, Health and Medical, and Skilled Trades. No matter what you have in mind for your future career, Seattle Colleges has exactly what you need to get started!

The Running Start Program is available for public high school students all across the Seattle area. This dual credit option is going to help you earn college credits while you continue to take your high school classes. Then, once you graduate, you will be able to roll those credits into your college degree. This can put you just hours away from an associate’s degree. Or it can help you get a jumpstart on your bachelor’s. They offer the Running Start program through all three college campuses and a huge list of classes.
Enrolling in Running Start couldn’t be any simpler. All you have to do is head over to the section on the Seattle Colleges site and hit “apply.” You will then determine your placement for classes, register, and go through your orientation. By the way, Running Start is available for free! Meaning you can get started with college without having to worry about any of the loans!

Once it’s time to graduate from high school, you can order your transcripts from the Running Start program to be sent to your college of choice. While you can continue pursuing a degree through Seattle Colleges, you are also able to use these credits at any four-year college or university. They will count toward your degree the same way standard credits from a community college would.
No matter what you have in mind for your future career, you can’t go wrong with the Running Start Program in Seattle Colleges. This option is the perfect way to get you started on your degree.
