While there’s a slight chance I’m biased, Seattle seems to have a monopoly on gorgeous scenery. From our towering mountains and dense forests to our iconic downtown, we have everything an adventurer could ever want. As a photographer, I’m constantly finding new spots surrounding the city that take my breath away. And while I’ve seen some pretty impressive spaces over the years, few compare to Scattered Seeds, a flower farm in Monroe. For the past several years, this space has constantly been transforming, offering its visitors unforgettable scenery. Whether you’re searching for a Seattle photoshoot location or just need a brand new place to explore, this one-of-a-kind spot needs to be your next destination!
Since its earliest buds started to bloom, Scattered Seeds has been a favorite spot for occasions such as weddings and photoshoots. The flower farm was started by Gwen, a farmer with a knack for creating beauty everywhere she goes. Her love for florals started when she was growing up in her mother’s flower gardens. From there, this passion only deepened. Throughout her adulthood, she and her husband, Paul, have always had careers that involve flowers and gardening. Gwen and Paul opened Pine Creek Farms and Nursery, a barn and garden wedding location. While her attention during the start was mostly devoted to orchestrating magical weddings, Gwen was once again able to devote her attention to planning and growing flowers that would make lush bouquets for the couples.
Year after year, the gardens grew until it became the serene space it is today. Gwen continues to bring in new breeds of botanicals, so the views are always changing. While she still works on creating bouquets, her primary focus is creating a space unlike anything you’ve ever seen. The farm is still family-owned and is committed to pouring beauty back into the community. You can find the flower farm at 23225 Sofie Rd in Monroe, Washington, just outside of Seattle.
Over the years, Scattered Seeds has worked to become a premier photoshoot location for Seattle locals. The farms combine highly-sought florals with native wildflowers to bring you a brilliant mix of colors everywhere you turn. From deep cerulean and splashy magenta to pastel blush and muted lemon, you’ll be able to find a spot with a color scheme that feels as though it was custom-made for you. The farm comes alive with blooms every year from May to October. During your time there, you’ll likely get to see adorable kittens as well as countless bees doing their job keeping the farm running as efficiently as possible.
Gwen understands what it takes to compose a great photograph and takes care to create a space where the plants can either be the focal point or the vivid background for your pictures. On top of the flower field, the nursery has a large farm, a waterfall, and a peaceful lake. As the sun sets, the area becomes positively idyllic. You can find cosmos, sunflowers, zinnias, dahlias, and more. There are carefully trimmed hedges as well as tall and unruly blossoms. Throughout the fall, the farm goes all out with its decorations. During this season, the farm focuses primarily on warm-colored flowers and fills the land with seasonal decorations. If you’d prefer, you can have pumpkins and haystacks throughout your background. The farm also has several benches and swings perched throughout the area to give you a comfortable space to sit and pose.
Because the space has become so popular for photos, the farm charges a small fee and puts perimeters to allow for a smooth experience. To begin with, the farms only allow two photographers to work at any one time, preventing any unwanted people from appearing in the backgrounds of your portraits. They have clear retail hours, so you can operate around these times. When the nursery is closed, the farm gives you the ability to explore the entire space, including the greenhouses. If you need a bathroom during your session, you can always contact Gwen, and she’ll help you out.
For your senior pictures, you’ll be able to bring along props to celebrate your personality. If you choose, you can get a bouquet arranged by the nursery to go with your outfit. And if you want more than one style throughout your session, you’re free to bring along options and change in the middle. This way, you can create your outfits based on the surrounding botanicals.
If you do choose to have the farm make you a bouquet, you can work with them to create an arrangement you’ll absolutely love. It can also match your amazing Seattle photoshoot location! You’ll be able to tell them your preferences and color scheme, and they’ll work with you to make you the perfect bouquet. This is an especially fabulous way to include your school colors!
Want to make your bouquet completely by yourself? Scattered Seeds is the right place to do it! The farm hosts regular workshops where you’ll learn what it takes to make a bouquet. This laid-back course starts with beverages before you start learning about the flowers you’ll be using. Throughout the day, you’ll wander through the gardens, where you’ll learn about the best plants to use for cut flowers.
Throughout the second part of the workshop, you’ll be presented with a table full of cut flowers available for use. Gwen will walk you through the different elements it takes to make a lovely arrangement. In the end, you’ll be presented with a plant you can incorporate into your own garden. While you’re more than welcome to take this class by yourself, it’s an excellent way to hang out with your friends or spend a day with your family before it’s time to head off to college.
