I am a Mercer Island newborn photographer specializing in lifestyle in home newborn photos. As a mom myself, I adore working with families so they can have portraits of this time. I can’t wait to share a recent in home newborn photo session at family’s home on Mercer Island!
Lately I had the pleasure of capturing baby girl Skye a week after she’s born! When I entered Lauren and Mike’s gorgeous home, I knew that the session would be successful, not only because their home is full of light, but also because how relaxed and chill they both are! Lauren was so on tune with her children and Mike was cheerful. They surely make a great team. That’s really the key point of having a great session. What makes me love more about this session is that they also have a rumbustious and full of energy 2 year old big sister Brooklyn. Having a toddler at a newborn session is another reason that you should have the session done at home. It’s so much easier than being in a studio.
We started off the session in the master bedroom. A family portrait is usually done at this part of the session. As a Mercer Island newborn photographer, I believe that a formal portrait of everyone looking at the camera is a must! I prefer to get this shot right out of the gate so we don’t worry about it anymore.
We then grabbed some photos of everyone interacting with each other. Usually families become much more relaxed at this point. I will interact with everyone to get some genuine smiles. When a new baby arrives and a toddler becomes a sibling, it can be a time of significant change and adjustment for the toddler. I always make sure that the toddler gets PLENTY of my attention so he or she does not feel left out or “oh this is all about the new baby”, which is never what we want. Big sister Brooklyn was so curious and loved to help! She helped mom put pacifier in Skye’s mouth and just was so eager to help in her own adorable way.
Mom with baby Skye – snuggling time
Dad with his babies – I love how they look at each other
The whole family snuggling on the bed, including their dog. We also did some reading with Brooklyn which was super fun and gave her a sense of normalcy.
As mom started to nurse Skye, Brooklyn and Mike ventured into Brooklyn’s bedroom. She was so excited to show me her bedroom. We played, we laughed while I quickly grabbed some photos of her with daddy.
We then headed downstairs and I said, how about a group hug in the kitchen? The photo looked absolutely beautiful!
Capturing a newborn baby at home is truly why I started my business. It is a beautiful and intimate experience that captures the essence of a family’s new addition in the comfort of their own space. A fun in-home photo session becomes a colorful and dynamic visual narrative, a celebration of the unique bond that makes each family’s story truly special.
